Terms
Version 0.9, 2026-10-27. Draft: Parts A, B and D apply now. Part C applies once paid plans go on sale; until then keys are issued by hand. These terms will be reviewed by a lawyer before the first sale. Text in [brackets] is filled in before then.
The important parts
- Shotrev is licensed to you, not sold. The Free plan is free on any number of computers, for personal or business use.
- A Personal or Business key is a one-time purchase that activates one computer for life. You are never charged again.
- Enterprise is an annual subscription per seat. If it ends, Shotrev keeps working on the Free plan. Your files are never locked.
- Check measurements, recognised text and markups yourself before relying on them for engineering, construction, safety or legal work.
- Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer-protection law.
Who these terms are with
These terms are an agreement between you and Shotrev, a software business based in Ontario, Canada (“Shotrev”, “we”, “us”). Address: [BUSINESS STREET ADDRESS]. Telephone: [PHONE]. Email: support@shotrev.com. If you accept them for a company, you confirm you may bind it, and “you” means the company.
You accept these terms by clicking “I agree” when installing Shotrev or buying a key, or by using the website. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
Part A: the website
You may use shotrev.com to learn about, download and buy Shotrev. Do not attack, overload or scrape the site, get around its security, or use the contact form to send spam or unlawful content. The text, images and design of the site belong to us; you may link to it and quote it fairly. The site is provided as it is, and we may change or pause it at any time.
Part B: the software licence
1. Licence
Shotrev is licensed, not sold. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Shotrev in line with these terms. We and our licensors keep all ownership of the software.
2. Plans
- Free: no charge, any number of computers, personal or business use.
- Advanced and Premium: a licence key unlocks the plan's tools on one computer, identified by the device code shown in Preferences, for life for a Personal or Business licence (a one-time purchase), or for the subscription year for an Enterprise seat. The features of each plan are listed on the Plans page.
3. Keys
A key is for the person or company named in it, on the computer it was issued for. Do not share, publish, sell or reuse a key on another computer, and do not try to make or alter keys. If you replace your computer or reinstall Windows, write to us and we will issue a replacement key for the new computer for the rest of the term, up to [2] times per term, and more if there is a good reason.
4. When an Enterprise subscription ends
The paid tools pause and Shotrev carries on as the Free plan. You can still open, view and export everything you made. We never lock or delete your files. A renewal restores the paid tools. Personal and Business keys do not end.
5. What you may not do
Except as the law allows despite this restriction, you may not: copy the software other than to install it under these terms and keep a backup; rent, lend, resell or redistribute it; get around the licence check; remove copyright or licence notices; or decompile, reverse-engineer or modify Shotrev's own code. These limits do not apply to the open-source components in section 8, and they do not limit what Canadian copyright law allows you to do, such as making a backup copy, making the software work with other software, or testing its security.
6. Your content
What you capture, record and mark up is yours, and we never receive it. You are responsible for having the right to capture, record and share it, including other people's screens, voices and confidential information, and for following your employer's policies.
7. Updates
If “Keep Shotrev up to date automatically” is on in Preferences, Shotrev checks for new versions about every six hours and installs updates that we have digitally signed. You can turn this off at any time. Updates are covered by these terms. If an update takes away a paid feature you bought a key for, you may ask for a refund (for an Enterprise seat, of the unused part of the year).
8. Open-source components
Shotrev includes open-source software, including FFmpeg (licensed under the GNU General Public License) and the Archivo font (SIL Open Font License). Those components are licensed to you under their own licences, not these terms, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under them, including the rights to copy, study, modify and redistribute them. Shotrev runs FFmpeg as a separate program. The licences and the exact source packages FFmpeg was built from are listed in the Third-Party folder of the download, and the complete corresponding source code is available from us free of charge for at least three years from the date you received the software. Write to support@shotrev.com. We do not own FFmpeg. Windows text recognition and the Outlook, Word and Excel hand-off use Microsoft software on your computer under Microsoft's terms.
9. Use in engineering work
Shotrev is a capture and markup tool. Dimensions depend on the scale you set, recognised text can be wrong, and captures can miss content. You are responsible for checking anything you rely on for design, engineering, construction, safety, legal or regulatory purposes against the original drawings and documents. Shotrev is not a replacement for professional review.
10. Ending the licence
You can stop using Shotrev and uninstall it at any time. We may end a paid key, after telling you where reasonable, if you seriously breach these terms (for example by sharing it); if we end it without such a breach, we will refund the price you paid (for an Enterprise seat, the unused part of the year). Sections 6, 9, 11 to 14 and Part D continue after the licence ends.
11. Warranty
We will provide Shotrev with reasonable care and skill, and paid plans will work substantially as described on the Plans page. Apart from that, and to the fullest extent the law allows, Shotrev is provided “as is”, and we exclude implied warranties and conditions such as merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that Shotrev will be free of errors or interruptions.
12. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, business, data or goodwill, and our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and C$[100]. These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
13. Indemnity (business users)
If you use Shotrev for business, you will compensate us for third-party claims arising from content you capture or share, or from your breach of these terms. This section does not apply to consumers.
14. Export and sanctions
Do not use or export Shotrev in breach of Canadian, US or other applicable export-control or sanctions laws.
Part C: buying, renewals and refunds
Applies once paid plans go on sale. Until then, keys are issued by email and no payment is taken.
15. Price and payment
Prices are shown on the Plans page and at checkout in [CURRENCY: CAD or USD], with any sales tax (such as GST/HST) itemised before you pay. Payment is taken by card through Stripe at checkout. Before you pay, the checkout shows what you are buying, the total, these terms and our refund policy, and lets you correct mistakes or cancel.
16. Delivery
Your key is emailed to you within [one working day] of payment, together with a receipt and a copy of these terms. To issue the key we need the device code from Shotrev's Preferences on the computer that will use it.
17. One-time purchases and Enterprise subscriptions
Personal and Business licences are paid once; we never charge you again. Enterprise licences are an annual subscription per seat, renewed only as agreed in the Enterprise order. We email the account contact at least 30 days before each renewal, and a subscription can be cancelled before it renews.
18. Refunds
If Shotrev is not right for you, ask for a full refund within [30] days of buying a key or renewal, for any reason, by writing to support@shotrev.com. We refund to the card you paid with within [10] working days, and the key stops working, which returns the computer to the Free plan with all your files intact. We also refund duplicate purchases and the cases in sections 7 and 10. After [30] days we refund only where the law requires. These rules are the same for every card brand.
19. EU and UK customers
You normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase. At checkout we ask you to agree to receive your key immediately and to acknowledge that you then lose that right, and we confirm this in your receipt. Our [30]-day refund policy applies to you in any case.
Part D: general
20. Your rights as a consumer
If you are a consumer, you have rights under consumer-protection law (including Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002) that a contract cannot take away. Nothing in these terms limits those rights. Where a term conflicts with them, the law applies.
21. Law and disputes
Please write to us first; most problems can be settled by email. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario may hear disputes. If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the courts where you live, the mandatory consumer laws of your home country or province still apply, and nothing here requires you to use arbitration or prevents you from joining a class action.
22. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example for new features or legal changes. The version and date at the top show the current terms. For a key you have already bought, the terms you accepted continue to apply to it (for an Enterprise seat, until the end of the subscription year), unless a change is required by law or only benefits you. We will email you at least 30 days before any important change that affects you. Earlier versions are available on request.
23. Transfer
We may transfer this agreement to a company we control or to whoever takes over the Shotrev business, and will tell you if we do; your rights under it will not be reduced. You may not transfer your licence without our agreement.
24. Other terms
If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. Neither of us is responsible for delays caused by events outside reasonable control. These terms, the Plans page and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us about Shotrev. Notices to you go to the email address you gave us; notices to us go to support@shotrev.com. These terms are written in English; a French version will be provided before Shotrev is sold to consumers in Quebec.
